Amazon Parrot
Amazon parrots come in 27 species. They are native to everywhere from South America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Some studies have noted that Amazon Parrots are as intelligent as dolphins, 3 year old humans and monkeys! Tests also showed that Amazon Parrots were able to talk in context and identify things such as colors and numbers of objects. Their talking talents are also exceptional and the African Grey is about the only parrot which can rival the Amazon Parrots when it comes to speaking.
Amazon parrots love to be around people and even children will find the birds taking particular affection to them. You'll be able to teach your parrot phrases and words and generally they will not just mimic you, but actually talk of their own accord. Amazon parrots also love water and will happily take a shower!
Amazons can have a number of different traits. These can include being playful, aggressive, silly, quiet and even cuddly or stubborn! These different personalities and moods are what appeals most to humans when it comes to Amazon Parrots. They really seem to have human like qualities. Some people believe that this is because they are native to forests where monkeys also live therefore are exposed to that sort of intelligent behavior.
Amazon parrots have very strong beaks so chew toys are a must and you need to ensure they do not have access to anything that is toxic, dangerous or can be broken. They need to eat foods such as fruit, vegetable, parrot pellets and plenty of fresh water. Spring or distilled water is preferable to tap water.
Amazons will generally need their feathers trimmed occasionally at the vet. Apart from that they are healthy birds when fed and kept properly and will provide you with many years of entertainment, love and companionship!
